May 30: Governor Cooper has issued Executive Order #142 - entitled "Assisting North Carolinians by Placing Temporary Prohibitions on Evictions and Extending the Prohibition on Utility Shut-Offs". This Executive Order extends the period that evictions for non- or late payments for both residential and commercial rentals until June 20th. Further, it extends the period that utilities are prohibited from turning off utilities (water, sewer, gas, electric) until at least July 29, 2020. It also requires that payment plans be allowed for the customer to make arrangements to make payments over a period of time. This Executive Order does not waive utility payments, customers are still obligated to make their payments, and encourages them to do so if they are able.
