Hamby Creek Outfall Sewer Line Replacement Project
Blasting for the Hamby Creek Outfall Sewer Line Replacement Project, Phase 3, (see map of construction area) will be starting in mid-February, 2020. Blasting is used daily in construction throughout the world. It is the most effective method of breaking rock.
Portable seismographs will be used to measure and record the ground vibrations and air pressures. This information is available and will be part of the project files.
The small air pulses that are generated by blasting operations may cause loose windows and loose doors to rattle loudly enough to be heard if you are standing nearby. Also, ground vibrations will sometimes be heard or felt, if you live/work near the area. These effects are being monitored and recorded, and will be kept well below the safe guidelines recommended by the federal government for occupied residences.
Blasting should be limited to between the hours of 2:30 and 3:30 PM, Monday – Saturday. Blasting may not occur every day and is weather dependent. It is expected that blasting will last for the next several weeks.
Air horns will be used as blasting signals before blasting and afterward to signal the all-clear.
