Lake Thom-A-Lex, located at 700 Yokley Road, Lexington, was created jointly by the cities of Thomasville and Lexington as the sole drinking water supply in 1957. Over the years the lake was identified as an opportunity to develop recreational facilities to serve the community. The authority enforces rules, ordinances and regulations adopted by the respective cities for operation of the lake. The authority consists of one elected official from the cities of Lexington and Thomasville and Davidson County.  In addition, the elected bodies appoint one citizen who resides in Davidson County.  Members of this authority also constitute the Water Quality Advisory Committee.

Authority members serve a three-year term; citizen committee members may only serve two terms. Council persons are appointed by their jurisdiction as necessary.
