Thomasville has a long history of operating a local school system. Over the years, changes in school funding and administration have effected the city responsibilities to the system. Today, the City Council has two main functions regarding the schools - appointing school board members and providing a school tax supplement. In 1983 the State General Assembly effectively froze the geographic size of the school district to its present boundaries. In order to serve on the school board you must live within the school district (see map, right-click on map to enlarge)
Appointments are for two-year terms, with a limit of three consecutive terms. For more information about Thomasville City Schools checkout the following documents.
