Our mission is to create opportunities that foster well-being and leisure for all.
The Thomasville Parks and Recreation Department was established in 1949. Thomasville was the 18th city in North Carolina to create a municipal Recreation Department.
The department maintains over 106 acres of recreation property in the City of Thomasville. They provide seven playgrounds, three tennis courts, a 7,000 sq. foot Skate Park, six outdoor basketball courts, one gymnasium, three recreation centers, one professional size baseball field, one football stadium, one administrative office building, and seven athletic fields. Our staff is made up of eleven full-time employees.
The Administrative Staff consists of: The Recreation Director, Program Director, Administrative Assistant, Athletic Director, Recreation Specialist and Center Director. We also have a maintenance staff of four. There are also three part-time counselors for our After School program. In addition, part-time staff is hired during the summer months. Approximately 40 part-time employees are hired seasonally.
