Q. How do I request a new street light be placed on my street?

A. You may contact the City Engineer at (336) 475-4250 to make this request. The City Engineer will study the location for feasibility and make a determination. Pending this study, the City Engineer may submit a request to Duke Power to place a new street light on your street.

A. Yes. You may contact the Public Works Director (336) 475-4216 or the Streets Superintendent (336) 475-4244 for driveway permit information, or you may obtain a driveway permit in person at the Billing & Collections Department  located in City Hall.

Q. How do I get a dead animal removed from the road?

A. You may contact the Sanitation Department at (336) 475-4239 and leave location information.  Our crews cannot enter private property to remove a dead animal.  The dead animal must be at or in the road.

A. One may contact the Planning Department at (336) 475-4255 or (336) 475-4213 to obtain information on the procedure for submitting a request or application for rezoning. Pending the initial request or application, the matter may then be forwarded to the Board of Planning/Adjustments for review and consideration before being presented to the City Council. Public Hearings may be involved.

Q. Where can I obtain a marriage license?

A. The City of Thomasville does not issue marriage licenses. You may contact the Register of Deeds Office of Davidson County at 474-2643 or 241-2150 for information.

Q. What is the procedure for generating a complaint in reference to an overgrown lot or unsightly property that needs to be cleaned up?

A. You may contact the Minimum Housing Inspector at (336) 475-4251 to generate a complaint. The inspector will go out to the property and make a determination based on City Ordinances that are in place. If it is determined that the property is in violation of City Code, an order will be issued to the property owner to make this property compliant. If the property owner does not comply, the city may issue a contract to have the lot mowed. A lien is then placed against the property.

Q. What is the procedure for getting a building condemned?

A. The Building Inspector (336) 475-4253 goes out and views the property in Question. He then makes a determination based on City Ordinances that are in place as to the safety and structure of a building. If it is determined that the property qualifies for condemnation, a notice is sent to the property owner for option to make repairs or demolish. If the property owner does not respond or comply, the city may issue a contract to have the building demolished. A lien is then placed against the property for demolition charges incurred by the City.
